How the Calculator Works

This tool uses the standard vendor profit formula:

Net Profit = Revenue − CoGS − Booth Fee − Travel − Other
Margin % = (Net Profit ÷ Revenue) × 100

What is Cost of Goods Sold (CoGS)?

CoGS is the direct cost of the products you actually sold at the event — materials, packaging, labels, and anything consumed making that specific inventory.

What's a healthy profit margin?

Most experienced market vendors target 50–70%. Below 40% usually means your prices are too low or your costs are too high. If you're under 30%, you may be losing money once you factor in your time.

Why track hourly rate?

Profit looks different when you divide it by time. A $200 profit from an 8-hour market day is $25/hr — good context for deciding whether a market is worth returning to.

Common Questions

How do I calculate my craft fair profit?

Subtract your total expenses (cost of goods sold, booth fee, travel) from your total revenue. The result is your net profit. Divide by revenue and multiply by 100 to get your margin percentage. This calculator does all of that automatically.

What is a good profit margin for a market vendor?

Most experienced market vendors aim for 50–70% after all expenses. Below 40% usually means your pricing is too low or your material costs are too high.

Should I include my time in the profit calculation?

Yes — that's what the hourly rate field is for. Enter how many hours you worked (setup, selling, and teardown) to see what you actually earned per hour.

What expenses should I track as a vendor?

Track cost of goods sold (materials, packaging), booth or table fees, travel and parking, and any other event-specific costs. All of these reduce your take-home profit from gross revenue.

How do I track this automatically for every event?

That's exactly what VendStats does. Download it free on iOS or Android to log sales in real time, track expenses, and see your profit breakdown automatically after every market.
